Successful Stories from our community

At Wisconsin EcoLatinos, our programs are creating real change in the lives of families across Dane County and beyond. From artists discovering their role in protecting our watershed, to homeowners accessing life-changing energy upgrades, to parents becoming advocates for clean air, our work is turning awareness into action. Participants like Paula, Marisol, and Andrea show how accessible, bilingual education and hands-on support can empower people to protect their health, care for their communities, and inspire others to do the same. These are just a few of the many stories that reflect a growing movement for a cleaner, safer, and more just environment for all.

Program: Guardian del Agua

Paula Alejandra Agudelo

Paula is an artist who moved to Madison two years ago. She participated in the Water Guardian program, a series of workshops designed to teach individuals about the Yahara watershed and the impact of stormwater pollution on the water quality in the chain of lakes. She was so impressed to have the opportunity to learn about the impact of pollution on ecosystems. She has joined Water Action Volunteers training, our campaigns on PFAS and microplastics, and just painted a mural at Nuestro Mundo Elementary to inspire others

Home Energy Efficiency

Marisol Martinez

Marisol Martinez was deeply concerned that her family could not afford the essential weatherization upgrades needed for their home to stay warm through the winter. Through our Home Energy Efficiency Guides program, we assisted Marisol in enrolling in the Focus on Energy and successfully securing $10,000 for home weatherization. Her family is now relieved and happy knowing they will remain warm this winter.

Healthy Home, Healthy Environment

Andrea Lopez

Andrea Lopez, a Beloit resident and mother of two young daughters, discovered the local air quality issues through one of our workshops. We assisted her in implementing exposure reduction strategies and installed a real-time Purple Air monitor at her home to track the air quality. Since then, she has become an active Wisconsin Ecolatinos member and advocate, campaigning for solutions before the DNR.
