Meet The Team

Cristina Carvajal
Founder & CEO
Cristina Carvajal is an environmental engineer, the Executive Director of Wisconsin EcoLatinos, and a dedicated advocate for environmental justice and community empowerment. Originally from Colombia, she has built her career around expanding access to environmental resources and creating inclusive pathways for families to participate in climate action.

As a director, she leads the organization’s strategic vision, builds partnerships, and guides the growth of programs in air quality, PFAS and microplastics education, home energy efficiency, tree stewardship, and community-based conservation. Her leadership ensures that EcoLatinos’ work reflects the needs, strengths, and voices of the communities it serves.

Cristina is widely recognized for her impact: she was named one of Wisconsin’s 40 Most Influential Latino Leaders by Madison365 in 2023 and received the Live Forward Award from Sustain Dane for her contributions to sustainability and community empowerment. Cristina is passionate about uplifting Latino voices and ensuring that all families have the tools to build a healthier, more sustainable future.

Damayanti (Dama) Rodriguez-Ramos
Program Coordinator
Dr. Dama is originally from Puerto Rico and moved to Madison in 2020 to pursue her Ph.D. in Microbiology at UW–Madison. She earned her doctorate in August 2025, focusing on plastic degradation, landfill microbiology, and microbial solutions to reduce plastic waste. In addition to her research, she completed a Ph.D. minor in Life Science Communications and part of the WISCIENCE STEM Public Service Fellows were she joined Wisconsin EcoLatinos as a staff in Fall 2023.

As Program Coordinator, Dama leads community outreach events, develops bilingual educational materials, manages the PFAS and Microplastics campaigns, manages the website and strengthens collaborations with partner organizations and local communities. “It’s work I truly enjoy with all my heart, talking with and supporting our communities is one of the best parts of what I do. Together, we’re helping protect our environment.”

Lulu Fregoso
Sustainability Coordinator
Lulu Fregoso recently graduated from UW–Madison with degrees in Conservation Biology and Economics, along with certificates in Environmental Studies and Public Policy. Driven by a commitment to environmental justice and community engagement, she hopes to empower others to adopt sustainable practices and spend more time outdoors

In her role as the Sustainability Coordinator at Wisconsin EcoLatinos, Lulu helps organize outreach events, create accessible community resources, develop sustainability plans for small businesses, and support the organization’s wide range of programs. She looks forward to continuing to build her outreach and communication skills and is grateful for the meaningful opportunities she has had with Wisconsin EcoLatinos so far.

Alejandra Espejo Reyes
Home Energy Efficiency Consultant
Alejandra Espejo is a very sociable person, she works with Wisconsin EcoLatinos connecting with families and informing them about the opportunities the state offers so they can benefit from different programs, such as accessing funding to improve their homes and save energy through the IRA and HEAR programs, while we work together to create a positive impact on the environment.
